Cyclone Bulbul veered towards Bangladesh early on Sunday and steadily lost strength but left a trail of death and destruction in Bengal, claiming at least nine lives spread over three districts. According to late evening reports, as many as 4.6 lakh people were affected and 60,000 houses damaged. The toll, officials feared, could rise further: eight fishermen on board trawler MV Chandrani, which capsized off Mousuni, an island in the Bay of Bengal, are still missing.
